William Shakespeare’s tragedy of Hamlet portrays the same theme and storyline to the famous Disney animation The Lion King. Although changing the ending to make it more suitable for children, The Lion King shares the same plot and conflict as the famous Hamlet. Simba, who can be directly compared with Hamlet, goes through the many hardships. Both characters deal with the murder of their fathers committed by the uncles, and run away from society in order to escape from the pain. Hamlet even begins contemplating suicide in his famous soliloquy “To Be or Not to Be” (3.1.3) While returning to society both characters had to make a choice; Simba deciding whether he should take the role his father had and Hamlet has to make the decision of seeking revenge on his uncle.
