The tent is a portable

The tent is a portable, lightweight lodging which uses thin material to protect people from wind, rain and from the cold. The fabric walls of a tent are supported by wood or metal poles and thin ropes (called “guy lines”), and the tent or the ropes are usually attached to the ground with plastic or metal pointed stakes. In this way, the tent is made freestanding. The tent further includes a flared top portion closed only by a net material to not only enhance ventilation of the tent, but also permit viewing of the sky.
Tents are generally used as shelter during hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. Large tents are also used to provide temporary shelter for events such as outdoor circuses. Tents are also used to provide temporary sleeping housings for military personnel or for people who have been displaced by a disaster (such as refugees).
