Procedures and policies are very important within a lab, therefore they need to be clearly and effectively communicated. This is because communication helps keep danger to a minimum as well as giving instructions, advice and information. From having clearly laid out communication, such as posters and signage, in reduces danger and increases safety around the lab and for people. Unfortunately, some workplaces do not have clear communication about any hazards or danger, and because of this people have become hurt. For example, a young graduated student from Yale died after her hair got caught In a lathe machine ( “a machine that spins and shapes hard materials”). This is why communication is important, their safety procedures and policies should have been more effective. The young girl should not have been working late in a lab n her own, and unsupervised, and her hair should have been tied back.
