William Shakespeare an English play writer, actor and poet. In his 20 years as a play writer, Shakespeare composed plays that capture range of human feeling and conflict. Shakespeare`s play, over the course of two eras, from about 1590 to 1613, he wrote total of 37 plays circling around key themes: chronicles, misfortunes, comedian and tragicomedies. Shakespeare`s play early were written in conventional style, with elaborate metaphors and rhetorical phrases that did not always align naturally with the story`s plot or character. In this essay, I am going to discuss the characterization and themes in Romeo and Juliet and with sonnet 18 which says “Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer`s Day?”
Shakespeare wrote this poem sonnet 18 to his love, the character we get in sonnet 18 is a woman because it talks of beauty that is comparable to the beautiful summer`s day. The speaker praises how his subject`s beauty is so gentler and eternal. The poem simplicity and loveliness as it praises the loved one. The speaker gives us the character of a woman that he loves and cares for. The speaker compares her beauty, comparing it to a summer`s day and how her beauty will last forever, unlike the summer`s day that is too short. Her beauty is gentler and more perfect than a summer`s day, when the sun is so bright and hot, that it can be striking, or how the clouds pass by the sun. He clarifies in words how gorgeous she is by matching her to nature. The character of the woman portrays the theme of the poem which is love. Through the woman we get love because the speaker loves the woman to an extent that he compares her to nature which is pure and beautiful. The speaker feels the sense of passionate love, immortality and joy throughout the poem. The speaker is deeply in love in line 2, he suggests that his subject is more lovely, more constant, and that her youthful beauty is more perfect than the summer`s day. Romeo the son and heir of Montague, Romeo is a young handsome, intelligent and sensitive. Though impulsive and immature. He lives in a middle of violent feud between his family and the Capulets, but he is not at all interested in fighting. He is only interested in his love for Juliet the daughter of Capulets. A beautiful thirteen-year-old girl. Juliet begins the play as a naïve child who has thought so little about love and marriage, but she grows up quickly upon falling in love with Romeo, the son of her family`s great enemy. The character of Romeo is revealed as a young man of about sixteen, his idealism and passion makes him an extremely likeable character. At the beginning of the play he is madly in love with a woman named Rosaline, but the sudden he sets eyes on Juliet, he falls in love and neglects Rosaline. Thus, Shakespeare gives us every reason to question how real Romeo`s new love is, but Romeo goes to extreme to prove the seriousness of his feelings. The themes we get in Romeo and Juliet are:
It is almost certain that they have on hand in their fate, they are merely being pushed by fate. As Juliet prepares to leave everything she loves for Romeo.

The play is about undeniable power of love. As in Act 1 scene 2, when Romeo says “I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I`ll be new baptiz`d, Henceforth I never will be Romeo”. That is powerful the love Romeo had for Juliet, he was willing to change his surname for her
As the feuding families end up being the ultimate downfall for Romeo and Juliet, there`s death and violence. For instance, in Act 3 scene 1, in a public place where Tybalt killed Mercutio.

Youth and age
They are deeply in love with each other, they do not care about what is happening around them.

They do not care about the rules made by their parents. To illustrate, Juliet was forbidden not to see Romeo again so that she could marry Paris, but she decided to take her own life.

Sonnet 18, the poet wanted to ensure that the readers could see her beauty in his sonnet. He tells her that as long as there are people on earth to read his poem her beauty will live on for an eternity. Romeo and Juliet a play about two star-crossed lovers, who are madly in love with each other. Fate finally brought them together as they both died in each other’s hands.
