Education is a very important time in our lives that is a never-ending learning process. We receive an education so that it can lead us to a bright future. It would only make sense to spend that time wisely, and to take any special opportunity that has come our way to receive a good education. With the quick progression of societies opinion, we have entered an age where we have more knowledge than we ever have. With this advancement, studying abroad has became a popular opportunity that college students are presented with. Studying abroad doesn’t just provide an education at a different location, it provides a lifetime experience that you would not find at a local university. It is with full confidence that the benefits of studying abroad outweigh the benefits of studying at a local university, and that the opportunity of studying abroad should be taken if given.
A valid reason for students choosing to study abroad would be to improve their language and speaking ability. English is a very common language and is spoken in a large number of areas and countries. If these students want to choose a workforce that is international, it would be extremely beneficial to know more than one language. Studying abroad provides that chance to learn a foreign language in its own native area. Studying abroad has commonly been expected to be the best environments in which to acquire a second language, according to Lafford (2006). Lafford indicated that studying abroad could help students advance their specific languages’ overall dictation which includes grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Through spending that amount of time in a foreign country where the customs are forced upon you, the language you are acquiring could soon be fluent. Some may argue that simply taking a course of a foreign language at a local university would give you the same knowledge. However, it only makes sense that if you are constantly spending time with people who speak the language and if using that language is the only way to communicate you learn much more and adapt to it much faster. You also will learn the slangs and how the people speak the language rather then how the book teaches it.
