In the 1950s of Southside Chicago racism was a part of everyday life whether it was overtly presented or subtle. A Raisin in the sun by Lorraine Hansberry is a book about the struggle of a black family living in Southside Chicago in the 1950s. They were a family of five living in a tiny apartment of a black neighborhood. The story shows the struggles of money, racism and assimilation. Throughout the story Lorraine expresses the characters strong want and need for money
